CS601 GDB Solution fall 2012

It is right that communication media is progressing by leaps and bounds and people prefer wireless communication media because of its some advantages but it is impossible to replace the physical communication media. Both physical and wireless communication media are having their own advantages and disadvantages, let’s try to understand the importance of both of them. The advantages of wireless media are mobility, less cost in big organizations, the big issue with wireless media is security, short distance, less reliability and speed and experts are doing work on these issues. The disadvantages of wireless media are advantages of physical media and vice versa. There is a shortage of time in modern world; this aspect is promoting wireless media. Because  now a days many business are depending on wireless media as ATM machine, people are being updated about stock exchange condition even while traveling/eating/jogging etc. So in short wireless media with many advantages even cannot replace physical media because it depends on physical media in many aspects.

Net solutions

Physical means copper wire or fiber that connect computers togathere Wireless networking ,as an alternative can be more convenient that physical media but will naver able to perform as well as cable.Copper and fibre are important to high performance data links and long distance backbone networks.Specific standards specifies wireless connection rates of about 100 megabits per seconds, possibly up to 200 megabits per seconds depending on wireless condition.Wire based networks at speeds of 100 Megabits per seconds The IEEE 802.3u appeared in 1995 followed by 100 megabits per seconds networks .Physical media allows multiple computers to connect to a switch over a dedicated communication path. While wireless networks have a nominal range of 100 to 200 meters Connections over fiber optic cable at a 1 gigabit per second can be 5 km about 3 miles ,or greater .Physical media is much more secure communication path .Wireless communication path can be intercepted by unauthorized personnel attemping to invalid privacy.Physical communication Media wire ,cable and another touchable materials used to send communications signals,They are called physical communication media. Wireless network is amazing wireless technology which has totally changes means of communication. Wireless network a magic word which can change your status very promptly that can get access to internet very speedily, and makes possible conversion more and more than two users such as text message ,downloading and uploading of picture.hear online radio, music downloading with a very high speed such type network offering hotspots therefore now the uasage of internet at airport, business companies is not an issue now.In the past ,some believed wired networks were faster and more secure than wireless networks. But continual enhancements to wireless networking standards and technologies have eroded those speed and security differences.Physical media is much more realiable than the other wireless communication.Wireless communication can be subjected to interference from outside sources.Wireless networks can be intentionally jamped or subject to unintentional interference.Networks based on physical media are subject to much less interference and are nearly impossible to intentionally jam availability

So I am not saying it is impossible to completely change the physical media into wireless media. It could be possible in the future but according to today’s conditions the best choice is the combinations of both wireless and physical media. Both physical and wireless media has some do’s and don’ts. Physical media has some qualities like less cost, cover longer distance, better security and good reliability. Wireless media has its own qualities like convenient, no wires problem easy mobility.

But these two have different disadvantages.Wireless media is slower, less secure, more complex to configure and also affected by surrounding like walls basements. Physical media also has some flaws like no mobility, cover more space and wired should be connected to power. So at the end I will say it could not possible to completely remove the physical media it is using on a large scale it has many advantages. We have to use both physical media and wireless media for best results.

Networks based on physical media have 1,000 to 10,000 times as much performance as wireless networks. Physical media is critical for high-performance networks.Wire-based networks at speeds of 100 Megabits per second, the IEEE 802.3u, appeared in 1995, followed by 1000 Megabit per second networks, 802.3ab, in 1999. Wire networks running at 10 gigabits per second appeared in 2002 and documents released in 2010 show the road map from 100 gigabit per second networks to Terabit networks.

Wireless networks have a nominal range of 100 to 200 meters (about 300 to 600 feet). Connections over fiber optic cable at 1 gigabit per second can be 5 kilometers, about 3 miles, or greater.Physical media provides a much more secure communication path. Wireless communication can be intercepted by unauthorized personnel attempting to invade privacy. It is also much easier for a wireless user to attempt unauthorized networks access. Networks based on physical media mean physical access is required to the building and to the network cabling.Wireless networks can be intentionally jammed or subject to unintentional interference. Networks based on physical media are subject to much less interference and are nearly impossible to intentionally jam availability
